Keep the timer stored with your eggs and when prepping place the timer in the cold water with your egg and bring to a boil. The colour changing will indicate when you reach a soft, medium or hard boiled egg. 

If you store your eggs in the fridge, place the timer in with them also so that it can mimic the internal temp of the eggs.
